How would it be…

To have someone say “It sure must be pretty cool being you”?

Sweet, eh?

Well, people notice, not what you do, but how you do it.

Whether you drive a bus, teach, or sweep the streets – it’s not what you do, but how you do it…that makes the difference.

Do we do what we do with flair and excitement, or with a labored stride, clinging to the ring of the bell, which denotes “quitting time”?

Remember, work is play with a purpose and it’s all dependent on how we play, that makes work fun and worthwhile, and it’s what makes others take notice.

More Water…

In the May 10th blog titled “Starting to heat up, Folks” we talked about the importance of water, and based on the experiences of my colleagues and myself, we have learned that we as a nation are dehydrated and it results in health issues.

To re-cap the amount, consuming 1 ounce of water for every 2 pounds of body weight per day is recommended and since fruits and vegetables are up to 90% water and meats and cheeses up to 50%, they can be used in your quota as well. Also, anything with caffeine or alcohol is not counted as a “fluid”.

So, with regard to water consumption, we understand that we must keep hydrated but many find it difficult to know how or when to get fluids in. ANYTIME is a great time to drink water but there are certain times to keep in mind.

Firstly, to help your body do its thing, TIMING of fluid consumption can be helpful. For instance, since eating and the digestion of food need water, drinking water a 1/2 hour before your meal will help digestion while not diluting the essential enzymes and acids needed in food breakdown and drinking water a couple hours after a meal will help to rehydrate what was used in digestion.

Secondly, your body does most of the “housework and repair” while you sleep, so hydrating before you retire for bed will help the process (not too much as to keep you up all night) and when you awake, drinking water will help re-hydrate what was used during sleep.

Hopefully the TIMING hints will help in the HOW of getting your quota of daily fluids to remain vibrant and healthy!

We all have to put up…

With something.

We’re not talking about settling for something that we don’t want, we’re talking about putting up with what we don’t want, allowing us to keep our focus on what we do.

It’s life – There are many things in life that are, most likely, not what we want, but we have the choice to put up with it or fight it – our choice.

Both “putting up with” and “fighting it” takes energy and focus, so we just need to decide which effort we are willing to put our energy on.

And we can usually know in advance which is the best choice…but we occasionally get “sucked into” the wrong one – that’s our only challenge.

Just keep Focused.

We are not wired…

To remember pain…But we are wired to remember happiness.

Here’s the deal…When we think back to a time when we had pain, we cannot recreate the feeling, only remember the event.

Whereas when we think back to a times of happiness, we not only remember the event, but we can recreate the feelings as well.

And when you really think about it, it is a brilliant system – block out past pain and have happiness and the feelings to continue, even after the event.

Some pain is inevitable, but being mindful of filling our lives with happiness is the right thing to do..as it’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Fired Up?

You bet!

I’ve been talking to a lot of people lately and their vocabulary has been changing.

From last years defensive talk of putting their helmets on and attempting to fend off the blows that the recession have been dolling out, to “enough is enough” and switching their mindsets, to that of going on the offensive – and making plans to charge ahead.

History has shown us that the times of greatest resistance has brought about the greatest opportunity, and the resilience of humanity has always fought back after the initial shock has sunk in, which has always turned things around…for the better.

I wonder if the recession had a conscious, it would have known that it “Poked the Bear” one too many times?

Happiness and Health?

You bet – Happiness has a big deal with your overall health!

Being unhappy or sad, go hand in hand with some pretty unhealthy habits, such as over eating, laying around all day, smoking, drinking or doing drugs.

And even without some of the unhealthy habits, depressed people have an increased chance of getting diabetes – up to 42% more likely, researchers say.

And the challenging thing to being unhappy is that it is always our choice…we may have occasions where we can slip into a state of unhappiness, but again, it is our choice to stay there.
