What’s you’re Plan?

Since it’s your life, it’s probably time to make some of your own affirmations that will help you stay on the long path of health. Writing, posting or displaying affirmations will be a great reminder on what your plan is.

What helped me long ago, when I used to eat until I was stuffed was “Just like the ships that go out to sea, I push my plate away from me”. Yeah, corny, but it worked.

Other examples are: “I am getting so healthy that I no longer have a fear of dying but a joy of living.”

“In eating, I don’t make a sacrifice with my diet, I make an investment in my future.”

“I understand the Standard American Diet is S.A.D. so I create my own.”

You get the point:)…now it’s time for you to make up your own affirmations that will work for you. And since we’re all in this together, please post in the comments so others may benefit from your creations!!!! Have fun!!!

I have to say this is my favorite one! When I go out to dinner, I think the portions are far to large, many times I only eat half even if I am not full. I also push my plate towards someone else. I’m less tempted to keep picking at it. I don’t exercise, but I eat smaller portions throughout the day and I never feel overstuffed and lazy. Thnx Dr. Vik!

I know I’m really bad about picking at food when it’s in front of me even when I’m full (i.e. French fries when I’m done with my entree). Pushing it away only sort of works. I eat my dinner fast and then kind of poke at what’s left until I’m stuffed. A friend of mine taught me a great way to deal with this: ruin what’s left if you don’t need/want to eat it. Pour a little soda on those fries. Or some Ketchup on the mashed potatoes. Whatever it takes to make it unappealing. Yeah you’re “wasting food” but if you’re not taking it home with you, get it out of the equation!

I’ve created my own Karen’s Standard Diet (KSD) and it consists mainly of whole natural foods that I’ve purchased and made at home. It makes it easier for me to determine what and when to eat, by being in total control… my problem doesn’t come from to many calories from food… it’s that empty calorie alcohol consumption that makes gluttony so appealing.

You also learn that if you slow down when eatting your body will tell you when it’s full. It usually takes about 20 mins or so for the brain to realize that you should stop eatting. So slow down, talk a bit, learn something about the person you’re eatting with. You’ll lose weight just from the fact that you’ll find you’re full after 1/2 of what normal places serve.

If that doesn’t work, use the above suggestion and ruin your food when you’re done eatting. That way you won’t keep picking at it when you know you’re already full.
